Don’t We All Need to Hear This!

Today we are welcoming Kelly from Loving Life’s Little Moments to At the Well.

This morning I was homeschooling the kids and we were starting our Bible lesson. We are just starting to learn about justification. We talked about how when you surrender your life to Jesus that He makes you a new creation in Christ.

Last year we studied butterflies and learned that as a caterpillar they eat and eat and then create a cocoon (that is the nonscientific short version!). Now the funny thing is, I always thought (or assumed) that a caterpillar grows wings and then emerges as a butterfly. Not true. The transformation from caterpillar to butterfly is something that science still cannot explain. They can’t figure out what happens; but what they do know is that the caterpillar liquefies while in its cocoon. Yup, you read that right: it liquefies.

It looses its old form or self; its old life and then it literally transforms into a new being; a new creation. The caterpillar knows that for it to truly become what it is destined to be, it has to in a sense die. It isn’t fearful of what it will become. It isn’t afraid to be transformed.

But as a new creation, that butterfly has to learn how to do every thing it did before in a new way (eating, moving, every thing!). It is the same with us. We can’t think the same old way, respond the same old way, live the same old way. It is more than just a “do over.”

It is a brand new clean slate of a start. We have to choose a new way; God’s way. I love how God uses nature to demonstrate the very thing I was trying to explain to the kids. Hmm, it is almost like He planned it out that way (smile).

We went on to talk about how Jesus gives you a whole new life. We looked justification up in the dictionary and they wrote the definition: “to prove blameless or without guilt.” I added an easy way to remember justification is that when Jesus sees you through His blood, He sees you “just as if you never sinned.”

I share this moment, because my oldest son’s eyes lit up. You could see the light bulb going on; that he was making a connection in his own life. He said, ” I am taking this page to church on Sunday!” I asked him why he wanted to take it and he replied, ” I want to read this to every one. Every one should hear this!”

That is so true! When God gives you a new life, you want to share it with the world. You are in awe of the miracle that God did for you. Kids can see things with such simplicity. There is so much hope knowing that God is willing to give you a new life filled with all the promises and dreams of a new life in Him.

One last thought: God can work a miracle in your heart in a moment.  With all the following moments, you have the opportunity to walk it out and learn to respond a new way, to live a new way, and ultimately, to love a new way. I pray that you are encouraged to take that next step with the Lord and be transformed.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 “Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”

Thanks! I was so surprised when I read that: “liquify” and that science can’t really explain it completely. I always thought a butterfly was a caterpillar with wings. Not even close. God is the best teacher! =0)
