See Him as a Champion

What do we see when we look at our husbands?  Do we see him through the eyes of society and compare them with the successful boss or co-worker?   Do we see them through our own eyes and focus on the weaknesses?  Or do we see our husbands through the eyes and heart of God.

I love the verse in Judges 6:12…

“And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him,
“The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!””

“You mighty man of valor!”

What?  But Gideon was a small man, not a handsome warrior.  He tended to be a whiner and one who walked in fear.  Did the Angel of the Lord need to be reminded about Gideon’s weaknesses?

God knew that underneath the smallness of Gideon and his whining, that Gideon was created to be mighty, a warrior, a man of great strength and substance, a valiant man, a man who would be significant and make a difference.

Many times, we look with our own eyes of flesh and don’t see the plans and purposes that God has for each one of us, including our husbands.

I have been reminded again to really focus only on the call of God on my husband.  It’s my job to encourage him in that call of righteousness and not point out the weakness.  I am being refreshed in the power of prayer and how  I need to see my husband  according to what God says about him.

Recently we were dealing with an issue that caused emotions to get a bit ruffled.  We make it a point to not go to bed angry and make sure we’re right in our relationship.  As the lights went out, my husband asked me for forgiveness for having a wrong attitude. He was actually beating himself up for having this attitude.

I rose up and the words that came out of my mouth were bold.

“Mike, if I wanted someone perfect, I would have married an alien.  But I didn’t marry an alien, I married a champion!”

Those words continue to ring in our hearts.

I did marry a champion.  He is the champion of my heart and my soul.  He is the champion of our family. He is a champion as encourages me to go deeper with God.  He is the love of my life.  I am so blessed that I get to walk with him on this life journey.

Do you need to see your husband through the eyes and heart of God?

Do you need a fresh love for him?

I believe that God wants us to see things from His perspective, don’t you?

Father, help me to see my husband through Your eyes.  Show me the plans that You have for us.  Show me how he is a champion for me.  And give me a fresh love and joy for him.  In Jesus’ Name. Amen

This doesn’t apply for me so much with my husband but it definitely applies to one of my children. A whiner and small boy like Gideon. I speak over him that he is a mighty man of God but I love that Gideon was addressed as a Mighty Man of Valor! It is hard for me to see how he will be a strong man one day with his weak tendencies but God sees it! Thank you for the good “preaching”. :)

Oh, yes. If we look at our husbands through the worlds eyes, we will never be satisfied. If we expect them to be perfect, we are in danger of being idolaters. Seeing them through the eyes of Christ is the only way we can appreciate our men for who they are. :)

“I have been reminded again to really focus only on the call of God on my husband. It’s my job to encourage him in that call of righteousness and not point out the weakness.” – This is such an encouraging reminder. Thank you! As wives we are supposed to encourage and support our husbands, but how easy it is to focus on their faults and weaknesses. Thank you for the exhortation to see them as champions and to encourage them in the roles God has placed them in.
