Perfect Love

Love is patient,

love is kind.

It does not envy,

it does not boast,

it is not proud.

It is not rude,

it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered,

it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

This is a scripture we have all read at one time or another. We can apply it in so many ways to our lives, but for today let’s apply it to our marriages. Let’s replace the word “love” and “it” with either I or our first name. Wow. Would it be true? Would it be almost true? Partly true? Barely true?

The scripture really is talking about Heavenly love. And that is what it takes for a successful marriage to last. Heavenly love. Heavenly love only comes by surrendering to the one who created love. We cannot truly love without Him.

Spending quality time with our spouse is a great thing. But the first thing should be spending time with our Heavenly spouse. Jesus can heal wounds, forgive wrongs and give us that kind of love that is patient, kind, not envious, not boastful, nor proud. He can give us the type of love that cures us of ourselves and causes us to give more than we have to give. His love erases past wrongs.

Have their been imperfections in your marriage? Take it to the perfect one. Let Him show you how to love in perfection.

Great post…it always amazes me how God has a way of reinforcing something we need to hear and/or work on. This past Sunday we were all given a sheet of paper in our bulletin with 1Corinthians13 and the “love” and “it” were blank and we were to fill in our own name to those that were true to us…I had a lot of blanks I needed to fill in. How true it is, that the only way to fill in those blanks is by going to Him.

    Blessings,
    ~Kerri
