I love the new-ness of a new year! The promise of a fresh start, the opportunity to implement good habits, the chance to drop bad ones.
It’s like a massive happy Monday, and I love it.
But I realize not everyone feels this way. I am, admittedly, a ridiculously easy person to excite.
There can be a sense of dread, of apprehension, even a lack of hope, as we prepare to enter a new year. It can be downright miserable if our eyes are not focused in the right direction.
If we do not fight to protect our peace of mind and heart.
We are urged – no, commanded - in scripture, time and time again, not to worry. We are told, rather, to press into peace and grab a hold of it.
I think sometime I forget the source of peace.
The Prince of peace. The Father of light. The Spirit of comfort.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid”
John 14:27
As we read further in the chapter, Jesus reminds the disciples of the One the Father is sending in His place. The Advocate. The Comforter. The One who comes alongside to nudge, gently direct, to encourage, lift chins, and who nurtures peace in times of trouble.
As we prepare to welcome this new year – filled to the brim, no doubt, with new delights and new trials – I pray we press into this gift of comfort and peace and truly get to know this delightfully intimate {and often overlooked} third of the Godhead.

This is a beautiful verse. Times are uncertain, but our Lord is faithful to give peace in all circumstances. The precious Holy Spirit has “lifted my chin” many, many times through the years. I am looking forward to the New Year and what God has planned for our family. Thank you for a lovely reminder.
So glad you were sweetly ‘nudged’ by this reminder. Blessings to you and yours as you enter a brand New Year with Him!
